Small hole in travertine tile
  • We just put this in our powder room a few months ago and now noticed that there is a quarter size hole that has developed in one of the tiles. Any idea on how to fill/repair? Really don't want to try and get this one tile out. I know it will not be good:(
  • grout will do it.

travertine comes either in honed & filled or natural (pitted). its unusual for the filling to wear out, but it can happen. I'm thinking that the tile may have been roughly handled during transport or perhaps install.

don't worry about the hole -- the tile isn't waterproof in the least (nor the grout). its what behind that counts, so grout is just the thing for the job.

best to use unsanded grout and don't use water to mix it up, use latex additive. for a hole that size you'll need to do multiple layers.

  • We ended up using an epoxy with the dust from a psare tile mixed in. Looks fine now. We'll see how it holds up:) Thanks for the help!
